Have you had a chance yet to hit the reset button or recharge your energy this summer?

If you have and you are raring to go, amazing! But if you haven’t, this episode may be timely for you.

It may be that you haven’t had a chance to take time away yet. Or, you had time away but came back even more tired than you left.

In this episode, we’re covering how to identify the type of rest and recharge activities that are right for you. Because, like shoes, rest is not one-size-fits-all.

We all have unconscious biases. Men and women, young and old, people from every ethnic background and every socioeconomic class.

While you may be able to catch one of your own implicit biases in a flash of awareness, it’s more likely someone else will point your biases out for you.

Becoming aware of and removing your unconscious biases takes an openness to hear someone out. It takes reflecting on what they share with you, and considering behaving differently going forward.

For many of us, critical feedback causes our defenses to go up. That's a natural human tendency. Because of this, it takes courage to point an unconscious bias out to another person.

How the feedback is delivered matters if you want the other person to take in the feedback you are sharing with them. As a leader, you want to keep this in mind as you are preparing to talk to another person about an unconscious bias you've observed them display.

This is what came up in a coaching session I had recently with, Jaime, a member of this community and a member of the military.

The unconscious biases in others that are typically experienced by women leaders is around their competence. Even though women leaders score higher on competence than their male counterparts, women are still considered to be less competent than men.

This is why mansplaining occurs and it's why a woman leader's reports and decisions are more likely to be questioned and second-guessed.

How do you deal with this without losing your mind or your temper? Listen in.

In this conversation Jaime shares her experiences and ultimately talks through the solution that feels right for her. I think her solution is going to resonate with you as well.

Do you dread one-to-one meetings because you’ll be asking the other person to account for an outcome or their performance?

Many leaders want to have high performing teams but overlook the fact that accountability is at the heart these teams. If you want your team to deliver on expectations or communicate when they can’t, you have to be able to hold others accountable.

Additionally, you need to look at yourself and ask what kind of role model you are to your team?

In this episode, we cover how your ability to hold others accountable impacts your team’s performance and how to get best out of your team.

Have you experienced the eye-opening magic of seeing from more than one perspective?

When we are children, we believe we are the center of the universe. At that stage in life, we have a difficult time considering why someone would see things differently than we do.

If fact, if someone didn’t agree with us, we made up a story about why this person could possibly not agree with our outlook.

It takes work to shake out of this default way of thinking and start making a habit of considering how other people are seeing things. However, the reward of staying open-minded and seeing things from multiple perspectives is new ideas, new opportunities and new solutions that you may have missed if you only look at things from your own vantage point.

Now take this ability as an individual and add to it a diverse team of people who all see the world differently. If this team can respect and appreciate each other for the unique perspectives and experiences they all bring to the table, this is your dream team.

In this episode, we’re going to cover the skill of considering and incorporating multiple perspectives as a leader, why it’s so important, and how you can incorporate it into your leadership.
